How it Works

What makes the songs in Skip’s Counting Jams so effective?

Each song is purposely simple and silly. However, they each have 5 key elements to enhance the memorization of times tables:

1. Skip Counting Sequence:

Each song centers on a specific skip counting sequence. As children sing the song, they keep track of the sequence by using their fingers.

2. Rhymes:

The rhymes are inserted in the middle of the skip counting sequences to better aid children in remembering the lyrics of the song and the skip counting sequence of that  times table.

3. Melody and Musical Style:

The songs in Skip’s Counting Jams incorporate a variety of different musical styles including Jazz, Country, Latin and Rock. Therefore, each song has its own distinct feel, which further helps children to memorize each sequence. It also introduces children to a variety of musical styles.

4. Humor:

Each song has a funny theme or story to make it enjoyable, which leads to wanting to sing the song many times.

5. Repetition:

The story and lyrics of each song are designed to repeat the skip counting sequence several times with just a few words or lines changing each time. This repetition reinforces children’s memorization of that skip counting sequence.  Some of the songs allow the students to continue the songs beyond the recordings, inserting their own ideas into the songs.
